One of the main challenges in the digitalization of parking facilities is the margin of error in license plate reading, especially in difficult conditions such as damaged or dirty plates, low lighting, or various vehicle types that require front and/or rear reading. Motorcycles, for instance, need rear license plate recognition. These factors can cause incidents that affect traffic flow and user experience. Reducing these errors not only optimizes operations but also increases parking profitability.
At Innova, we have implemented our technology in real installations and have concluded that integrating white light (>30 lux) in LPR systems improves accuracy in reading deteriorated license plates by 0.5% to 1%. When intensity exceeds 100 lux and is combined with color captures, accuracy can increase by up to 3%. We have found that, along with advanced AI and technologies like SIRAM OCR, white light is key to maximizing accuracy even in challenging conditions.
Multi-camera ALPR System for Lanes: TwinnPlate
Dual-camera systems per lane significantly increase accuracy in ALPR systems. This solution is ideal for ticketless, barrierless, or mixed systems, especially for vehicles with rear-only license plates.
How Does TwinPlate Work?
The TwinPlate system uses two or more ALPR cameras installed in the same lane to capture different perspectives of the vehicle, such as front and rear license plates, simultaneously and seamlessly for the PMS/PARCS system. This provides key advantages:
- Higher accuracy: The combination of readings from both license plates reduces errors caused by unreadable or inconsistent plates.
- Adaptability to different vehicles: Enables recognition of both cars and motorcycles, regardless of their license plate configuration or condition.
- Performance in adverse conditions: Improves detection in low light or with damaged plates through advanced algorithms.
- User experience: By minimizing identification errors, interruptions and waiting times at entrances and exits are significantly reduced.

The TwinPlate system incorporates SIRAM OCR intelligent LPR software, combining three main capture modes:
_ Continuous Push. Free Flow mode that continuously captures images while the vehicle moves, ideal for high-traffic environments.
_ Pre/Post Trigger. Captures images only when a sensor detects a vehicle at a specific point, optimizing resources in lower-traffic situations.
_ Continuous Trigger. A combination of Free Flow and Trigger modes. Captures continuously but only sends data when a trigger is received.
All modes integrate advanced recognition algorithms, fusing images from both cameras to provide precise and reliable identification. This results in a significant improvement in license plate reading efficiency.

TwinPlate Versions

The AiO master camera receives the trigger from the PMS/PARCS system and replicates it to all AiO slave cameras. TwinPlate AiO within the master camera selects the best result from all readings and sends it to PMS/PARCS.

Lightweight middleware software that receives the trigger from the PMS/PARCS system and replicates it to all AiO cameras in the lane. TwinPlate middleware returns the best result among all received to PMS/PARCS.

The PMS client sends the license plate request to all AiO cameras in the lane. However, only the highest-priority TwinPlate AiO P2P responds. If a camera fails, lower-priority cameras automatically move up in the hierarchy and take over.
