SIRAM: Control Electronics LPR

SIRAM CONEX

The SIRAM CONEX board is the control electronics associated with the SIRAM vehicle access control platform. This is the device which tells us when a vehicle arrives at the access control point, so that we can take photographs of the number plate and activate external elements such as barriers, traffic lights and blades through the relay outputs.. It comes in various formats, depending on the needs of the facility.

SIRAM Conex Types

There are different CONEX models depending on whether the CONEX system incorporates loop detectors and if it is supplied inside the Schneider cabinet or machined in an electric board to install inside the Totem or Totem Compact capture unit.

In the case of the SIRAM CONEX board, the electronics are supplied unmachined so that the customer
can install them in their own control cabinet.

Details of the machining

SIRAM CONEX (MACHINED IN IP66 CABINET)

The control electronics are located inside an IP66 Schneider cabinet, inside which the following elements are machined:

– 12Vdc of 12A power supply positioned to feed the control electronics and loop detectors.
– Magneto-thermal switch of 220Vac16A to be able to feed the source and up to two inductive loop detectors.
– Depending on the version, it also includes the inductive loop detectors of one channel, which are those responsible for detecting the passing of a vehicle in the lane. It offers a voltage-free contact while the vehicle remains over the loop.
– SIRAM CONEX board, Control electronics of 4 alarm inputs and 4 relay outputs controlled through TCP/IP.

PFor an easy connection, the Conex uses a terminal board at the bottom of the cabinet.
Each connection is detailed below taking the terminal board of a Conex IP02 as reference, as can be seen in Figure below.

– The Conex is connected to the mains, 220-110Vac/ 50-60Hz, through a magneto-thermal switch. For the connection, the recommendation is to use a triple wired cable, 1.5 mm. in diameter.

Terminals L1 – L1: Input of the twisted pair for the loop on the ground. This cable must have a minimum diameter of 1.5mm, single wire, and must be twisted with 20 twists per metre as a minimum from leaving the loop to its connection with the CONEX cabinet.

Terminals L2 – L2: Input of the twisted pair for the loop on the ground. This cable must have a minimum diameter of 1.5mm, single wire, and must be twisted with 20 twists per metre as a minimum from leaving the loop to its connection with the CONEX cabinet.

Terminals 3 and 4: Alarm Inputs. These are only used if anti-masking is required in the event of a queue of vehicles. To actívate anti-masking, the signal from the loop or from the barrier’s anti-crushing photocell are used.

Terminals 5-5, 6-6, 7-7 and 8-8: Relay outputs. There are four relay outputs which are voltage-free and completely independent.

Terminals 12-0: Output of 12Vdc to feed other elements external to the Conex. This cabling is very sensitive to distances. On operating at low voltage, there can easily be voltage drops of 1 to 2 volts, depending on the cable diameter and distance:
• Distance from 0 to 15 metres. Twin wire cable with a 1.5mm diameter.
• Distance between 15 and 30 metres. Twin wire cable with a 2mm diameter.
• Distances exceeding 30m. Twin wire cable with a 2.5mm diameter.

Details of the machining

SIRAM CONEX IP TOTEM (MACHINED IN ELECTRICAL BOARD)

The control electronics are machined on an electrical board which can be fitted within the Totem or Totem Compact cabinet. The CONEX IP TOTEM model incorporates the following elements:

– SIRAM CONEX board, Control electronics of 4 alarm inputs and 4 relay outputs controlled through TCP/IP.
– Depending on the version, it also includes the inductive loop detectors of one channel, which are those responsible for detecting the passing of a vehicle in the lane. It offers a voltage-free contact while the vehicle remains over the loop.

For an easy connection, the Conex uses a terminal board at the top of the cabinet.
Each connection is detailed below taking the terminal board of a Conex IP TOTEM 01 as reference, as can be seen in Figure below.

Terminals L1 – L1: Input of the twisted pair for the loop on the ground. This cable must have a minimum diameter of 1.5mm, single wire, and must be twisted with 20 twists per metre as a minimum from leaving the loop to its connection with the CONEX cabinet.

Terminals 2 and 0: Alarm Inputs. These are only used if more lanes are needed.

Terminals 12-0: 12Vdc input to feed the SIRAM Conex board and the loop detector.

SIRAM CONEX PROTOCOL

Each Conex electronics has an associated executable (SIRAMCtrl1.exe,…, SIRAMCtrlN.exe) in which there is a TCP server to which the external application is connected to send commands for the activation
and deactivation of the relays The commands implemented are the following:

[SEND PULSE TO OPEN RELAY]

Every time this command is sent to SIRAMCtrlN, this sends a pulse toone of the four output relays of the Conex electronics. The default pulse duration is 1 second.

[ACTIVATE RELAY]

This command is used to activate a relay from the Conex electronics (closed circuit).

[DISACTIVATE RELAY]

This command is used to deactivate a relay from the Conex electronics (open circuit).
